The GACMAC Social Committee is hosting a number of social events that will coincide with the conference. As the social scene is constantly evolving under COVI-19 restrictions, these events may be modified and cancelled where necessary. Please check frequently for updates prior to the conference.

GAC-MAC Icebreaker
A conference opening reception on Tuesday afternoon/evening.
When: November 2, 2021, between 4:30-7:30 pm EDT
Where: Talbot Bowl Tent, Western University campus
Cost: FREE
*COVID-19 Protocol will be in place; you must be seated to consume food and drink and remain masked while indoors and under the tent.
Planet – an Earth observation Scavenger Hunt
Learn how to Explore the Earth through time and space in a fun Scavenger hunt exercise hosted by Ingenium and Western University, and sponsored by Planet. Planet has the largest constellations of Earth observation satellites that image the Earth every day, making change visible, accessible and actionable. Here we will give you special access to Planet data and its exploration software for the week of the conference to experience the Earth from above first hand.
To participate in this event, you must register no later than October 26.
When: Thursday November 4 at 12:20 pm
Where: Arts and Humanities Building (AHB) 1R40
Cost: FREE

Cronyn Observatory Night
Get the view of the night sky during an evening at the Hume Cronyn Memorial Observatory hosted by knowledgeable astronomers. This includes a tour of the 1940 and 1967 period rooms and the vault in the basement of the observatory, and of course, a look through the telescope(s) with your own eyes. Note: If indoor restrictions are in effect, telescopes will be brought outdoors to enjoy.

Pub Night – informal drop-in
For your convenience and further networking, we invite you to a night at the Pub on Thursday evening. This event will be held outside on a patio, unless inclement weather brings us inside.
No registration required. See you there!
When: Thursday November 4 starting at 8pm.
Where: Joe Kool’s, 595 Richmond St. London.
Notes: Please dress accordingly. Kitchen is open late. *Must show proof of vaccination at the door. Mention you are with GAC-MAC and they will show you to the patio. There will be large capacity tables but you must remain seated if eating or drinking.
